The Admiral at caso seat the Fing-Lieutenant in the steam-lenpeh to Hakodato for assistance. There were at that port the Franch Aagship Themis with the Kerguelen and the the Champlin, Russian flagship Nate- drik and HLM.' corvette Modeste, all of which want with the utmost despatch to the assistanton of the Fren Duke, taking lighters with them. All Friday and Saturday wore spout in lighten. ing ship, sanding shot, shell, and provisions on ahore, throwing coal overboard, and after the arrival of lights, discharging heavy weights into them. By Saturday evening, the Champlain and Kerguelen ware get into position with stool hawears at nobod for a great effort on Sunday morning. Tafortunately, after dark on Satar day, the Champlain gob on the rocks, and the Zron Duke had to let go the steel bawser, value €1,150, which got entangled with the Ch mplain's serow and was entirely destroyed. Next morning the Cham:lain was got off by the Mooste with loss of false keel, main beel damaged, sare disabled by lawyor, and ship lasking. It was estimated that to put her in a state of thorough repair in Eng Iand would cost £80,000. During the time tho ship was ashore, nothing could exceed the kind Dess and assistanca & both-French and Rasaidos. On learning the extent of the damage the Admi ral shifted his Bug to the Monaste, taking with bim HIH, Prisco Arisugawa Takahite, wie is sorving as a midshipmann on board, and ordered the abip to proceed at once to Hongkong against the monsoon and in the typhoon cowson. It is thought she will be patebod up and sent Homo as soon as possible, er repaired safi ciently to last the Admiral's time, which will be up in December.
