A curious cass was lutely brought before one of the Franch tribunale. The manger, of the office in which he was en- ployed, who entertained an exellent opinion of him, was auxions to hush the matter ap, but the police insisted upon his prosceation. Exipé avoided arreat, and enlisted in a cavalry regi- went under the name of Lemaitre, a former school-fellow. He served for three years, and "have the best of characters, but, being offered - a clerkship in the Aisar, he desered. The real Lemaitre was arrested on this charge, but he had no difficulty in proving his innocence, nad Eripò was again condensed in contumaciam to ton years hard labour, for surping a name which did not belong to bita. He, in the mean white, bad bean guduing the esteem of his ployer, at whose instance he contracted a mar- viaga under the name of Leaters, by which he Was still keep.
