The great extension of steam communi cation: both by sea and river and the crea tion of telegrapbio.connections, since tha existing Local Bank was founded; havy greatly added to the importance of Shang- hai, until it has beounie the great depth or distributing point for the trade of North- ern and Central China; but, while it nesus desirable that Shangboi eboull be the bead-quartere of thi bei Bank, and it direction 'on the spot where the principal interests are involved, a local Committee will be formed in Hongtong for the pro- motion of the undertaking there.

The succes of other public companies in Bbunghai and Hongkong, and the evidenda of a large sum of mahey seeking favent- mant in China, encourage the belief that the proposed Capital for this Bank will ka readily subscribed; any influential nativo merchante, bare already come forward as native promoters sed supporters of the undertaking, and the Committén look for à very valuable constituenty from Chinese
