The great extension of strain communi cation both by sou and river, and the crea-. tion of telegraphic connections, since the existing Local Bank was founded; have greatly added to the importance of Slang-- hai, until it has become the great depit or distributing point for the tride of North- en and Central China; but, while it seems desirable that Bhanghai should be the bead-quarters of the new Bank, and ite direction on the spot where the principal interests are involved, a local Committee will be formed in Hongkong for the pro mbtion of the undertaking there.

The sucess of other public companies in Shanghai and Hongtong, and the ovidoura of a large sum of money seeking invest ment in China, encourage the belief that the proposed Capital for this Bank will be readily subscribed; many influendal native merahanta have already come forward as otive promoters and supporters of the undertaking, and tho Committee look for a very valuable constituency from Chinese

sourcer.

The logul constitution of the Bank is engaging the considemtion of the Dôm-. mittee, and reference has been mado to London and oleorhere for the bort legal advice upon the subject; and it is under- stood that no Shares will be alloted, nor will operations be commenced until the ne- Cossary Arrangements have been completad, when further information will be laid, bo fore intending Shareholders. In the mean- time, applications for ehares are invited, until the 15th April, 1872, but must be on the prescribed Purins, which osa le oblain- ed from the Secretary.

The terms of the transfer are, that the Company requires the whole of the exten- sive works, plant, property, contracts, mil amris of tac old business, freed from all liabilities and encumbrances.

The Property, including the Goodwill of the business, to bo "transferred to this Company, is complete and perfect in every branch, and consists of a site of about 10 mow of land, situate of the Pooting side, immadiately opposite to the Englan Set- tlement, Shanghai, having a frontage to tka River of 443 feet.

With the view of arriving at a correct valuation of the property and plant, Mr. CONTBL has made a careful estimate, whish, after allowing liberally for depre ciation, amounts to Taela 100,010, particu- lure of which can be seen on application,

A satisfactory strangement he been en- tered into with Me, MüzagEAD for carry- ing on the undertaking with the presect ellieiont staff, and Mr MoTBREAD will retain a large intersat in the Company.
