It will be observed that the profite for the past twelve months are considerably below the avstage of provion purs. The Directure daem it important, therefore, tu state, that this fall- ling off arose, not only from the exceptional ioanaes referred to in their last Circular, but in a still greater degree from the disturbance of the Exchanges, mince especially in Chine, on
the sudden outbreak of the war in Europa find from the restrictions which the Directora measure of precaution, then imposed upon the trabractions of the various Agencies, Al- though these restrictions accessarily cartiled the proâts of the Bank, their effect has been to maintain the business on a perfectly sonnd foating; and, judging from the advices already received, the operations of the Agencies during the present year are of satisfactory character.
