CSSA recipients' expenses in Chinese medicines
Following is a question by the Hon Mrs Elizabeth Wong and a reply by the acting Secretary for Health and Welfare, Mrs Doris Ho, in the Legislative Council today (Wednesday):
Question:
Will the Government advise this Council whether recipients of the Comprehensive Social Security Assistance Scheme (CSSA) are reimbursed for the actual expenses incurred in using traditional Chinese medicine, if not, why not?
Reply:
In line with our policy that no one should be denied adequate medical treatment because of a lack of means, Comprehensive Social Security Assistance recipients are entitled to free medical treatment at public hospitals or clinics. Medical expenses for direct patient care, regardless of whether they are for traditional Chinese medicine or western medicine, are therefore not reimbursable.
