A spokesman for the department said with effect from next Monday (January 6), the British Trade Commission would assume the following responsibilities:

(i)

(ii)

Process applications for British passport (except Hong Kong British Dependent Territories Citizen and British National (Overseas) passports);

Process extensions of United Kingdom Certificates of Identity;

(iii) Applications for naturalisation, registration, renunciation and resumption

of British nationality, and

(iv) Consular assistance, notarial acts, registration of births, deaths and

marriages.

The spokesman said after 4.30 pm on Friday, the department would cease taking the above applications.

"Any outstanding applications will be passed to the British Trade Commission (Passport/Consular Section) for completion," he added.
