Professor Chan is the Associate Dean of Faculty of Business Administration of the Chinese University of Hong Kong.

Mr Cheng is the principal of Pui Ching Middle School.

Dr Chow is the executive director of a bank.

Professor Lam is a professor in the Department of Medicine of the University of Hong Kong.

Retiring from the Council are Dr Sarah LIAO Sau-tung, Mr CHAN Yan-leung, and Dr SO Kai-ming.

"We are grateful to these retired members for the devotion of their precious time and effort to a highly regarded public service. Their contribution to the work of the Consumer Council has been most useful in promoting consumer interests," the spokesman said.

Appointments to the Metrication Committee

The Government announced in the Gazette today (Friday) appointments to the Metrication Committee.

Mr KY Tongson has been re-appointed Chairman of the Metrication Committee for one year with effect from January 1, 1997.

Miss Anita Bagaman and Mr Chan Chun-fat have newly been appointed to serve as members of the Committee for one year with effect from January 1, 1997.

The Metrication Committee will comprise 16 members, including 11 non- official members. There are five official members coming from the Trade and Industry Branch, Information Services Department, Customs and Excise Department and Home Affairs Department.

"We will seek opportunities for co-operation with the retail sector in the promotion of metrication and co-organise publicity programmes with local organisations." a Government spokesman said.
