Governor's Transcript

The following is the transcript of the media session given by the Governor, the Rt Hon Christopher Patten, on his return from Japan this (Sunday) afternoon :

Governor: Good afternoon. I've had a busy and successful visit to Japan. I was delighted to be part of such a good team from Hong Kong taking part in the Hong Kong-Japan Business Co-operation Committee meetings and also giving briefings at, very well attended, meetings of Japanese businessmen, business leaders, politicians, on Hong Kong and our prospects. It's an important positive message for us to get away, for us to get across to Japan because there's almost $20 billion of Japanese investment here in Hong Kong. Japan's our third largest trade partner. So we want to get across as positive a message as possible to the Japanese community and as well as those business meetings I did a number of interviews and radio and television programmes.
