A spokesman for the Labour Department said today (Thursday) that 307 employee unions had registered as electors in the LAB election to be held at 3 pm in the hall of Haking Wong Technical Institute, 702 Lai Chi Kok Road, Cheung Sha Wan.

"Each elector may appoint up to two authorised representatives, who must either be paid-up members, officers or paid staff of the union, to attend the election," the spokesman said.

"The authorised representatives are required to arrive at the institute before 2.30 pm on the election day. They must produce their Hong Kong identity cards for inspection before being admitted to the election hall."

Representatives of the Secretary for Education and Manpower and Registrar of Trade Unions will be present to supervise the counting of votes. Assistant Commissioner for Labour, Mr William Siu, will act as the Returning Officer.

Apply travel documents early to avoid holiday rush

The Immigration Department advises members of the public that they should apply for travel documents as early as possible if they intend to travel abroad during the Christmas holidays.

"The number of people travelling outside Hong Kong will increase sharply during this time of the year," a spokesperson for the department said today (Thursday).

"In order to avoid last minute rush, members of the public are advised to apply for passports and certificates of identity well in advance of the date on which they intend to travel."
