The Victim's Charter seeks to answer these difficulties by setting out a number of broad principles to guide members of law enforcement agencies, government departments and other organisations concerned with victims of crime. principles are:

The victim's right:

to be treated with courtesy and respect

to have a proper response to complaints of crime

to information as regards the crime reporting

These

to information as regards the crime investigation and prosecution,

to proper facilities at court

to be heard

to seek protection

to privacy and confidentiality

to prompt return of property

to support and aftercare, and

to seek compensation

In return, members of the community are expected to help maintain law and order, through:

abiding by the law

taking proper precautions to prevent crime

reporting crime, corruption and any suspicious circumstances

co-operating with the law enforcement agencies on request

giving any assistance they reasonably can at an incident when asked to do so by the law enforcement agencies, and
