Following is the transcript of the remarks (English) made to the media by the Chief Secretary, Mrs Anson Chan, after returning from Australia this (Sunday) evening:

CS: Hello everyone. I've just completed a one-week tour of Australia. This has been on the whole a very successful tour during which I met with the Prime Minister. I also opened our Sydney office our new Economic and Trade Office - which will provide a permanent presence of Hong Kong in Australia after 1997. I met with the State Premiers of New South Wales and Victoria, also with other leading government officials, leading business people and also with academics and the media.
