At present, there are no air quality standards for car parks. However, in consultation with air pollution experts and various professional bodies, the Environmental Protection Department is compiling Practice Notes on the Control of Air Pollution in Car Parks, for issue to developers, professionals and car park management companies. The Practice Notes, which will be issued later this year, will set out the air quality guidelines for carbon monoxide and, as an additional precaution, nitrogen dioxide, and will advise on measures such as the installation of monitors, car park layout and ventilation requirements to improve air quality inside car parks. The EPD will monitor compliance with the Practice Notes before considering whether legislation is necessary to regulate the air quality in car parks.
