Chief Secretary to visit UK

The Chief Secretary, Mrs Anson Chan, will leave Hong Kong tomorrow (Saturday) evening for a three-day visit to London.

Mrs Chan's visit will begin on Monday (July 1) with a luncheon speech to the Hong Kong Association in London.

In the afternoon, she will call on the Prime Minister, Mr John Major, to discuss with him the latest developments in Hong Kong.

After her meeting at No 10 Downing Street, Mrs Chan will address a group of fund managers at a dinner hosted by Morgan Stanley.

On July 2, the Chief Secretary will call on the Foreign Affairs Spokesman of the Liberal Democrats, Mr Menzies Campbell, before meeting the Foreign Affairs Select Committee and the British-Hong Kong Parliamentary Group.

On the following day, she will meet Labour's Shadow Foreign Secretary. Mr Robin Cook, and opposition spokesman on Hong Kong, Mr Derek Fatchett. She will then address the Royal Institute of International Affairs before attending a lunch with journalists.

July 31.

Her visit to London will end with a session with the Hong Kong stringers.

The Financial Secretary, Mr Donald Tsang, will act as the Chief Secretary during Mrs Chan's absence.
