Mr. Chan said students were required to pass a test at the end of the six-week bridging course for admission to a prevocational school.

Secondary 1 students of grammar schools who wish to enrol in the course may obtain application forms from their own schools. Completed forms should reach the relevant prevocational schools on or before June 14, 1996.

Provisional statistics of retail sales for March

The value of total retail sales in March 1996, estimated at $17.7 billion, increased by 7% when compared with March 1995, according to the provisional figures released today (Friday) by the Census and Statistics Department.

After discounting the effect of price changes over the period, total retail sales showed a small increase of 0.4% in volume.

Compared with a year ago, sales of motor vehicles increased by 11% in value and 9% in volume, after having registered decreases for 12 consecutive months.
