Eleven candidates passed licentiate examination

The Licentiate Committee of the Medical Council of Hong Kong today (Thursday) announced that a total of 11 candidates had passed Part II of the Licentiate Examination for unregistrable doctors - English for professional use paper this year.

The 1996 Part II Examination was held in March and May respectively to allow candidates a choice of examination dates, and to give those who failed in March an opportunity of another attempt in the same year.

Ten out of 12 candidates who took the Part II Examination in March passed, while one out of two who took it in May passed.

All those who have passed the Part II Examination this year are eligible to take the Part III Examination scheduled for July.

The Part III Licentiate Examination is an oral test on candidates' ability to apply professional knowledge to clinical problems.

Each candidate will be given an oral examination in each of the three disciplines of Medicine, Surgery, and Obstetrics and Gynaecology.

Non-graduate teacher qualifications assessment results

The Education Department said today (Thursday) that 69 out of 131 candidates had passed in the fourth cycle of the Non-graduate Teacher Qualifications Assessment (NGTQA) Examinations held from February to March this year. The passing rate was 52.7 per cent.

A Senior Education Officer, Miss Ding Wan-yuk, said letters of notification of examination results had been sent to both successful and unsuccessful candidates. Miss Ding said out of 69 successful candidates, 10 were qualified to use both Chinese and English as their media of instruction, while 59 can use Chinese only. Thirteen passed all three parts of the assessment and 56 passed parts I and II.

Part I of the assessment tests candidates on general education, Part II on the medium of instruction and Part III professional training.
