No cases of CSD staff disciplined for gambling
Following is a question by the Hon Zachary Wong and a written reply by the Secretary for Security, Mr Peter Lai, in the Legislative Council today (Wednesday):
Question:
Will the Government inform this Council:
(a)
(b)
of the number of Correctional Services Department staff who were disciplined in the past three years for gambling among themselves or gambling with prisoners while on duty and of the penalties imposed on such staff; and
of the monitoring measures in place to eradicate the problem of Correctional Services Department staff gambling while on duty?
Reply:
Mr President
(a)
(b)
In the past three years, we have had no cases of Correctional Services Department staff having been disciplined for gambling, either among themselves or with prisoners while on duty.
There are adequate monitoring procedures in the CSD to prevent all kinds of illicit activity including gambling. These include security controls, background checks, proper supervision and interviews as
necessary.
