The figure was converted to US$ by applying an average exchange rate of 7.741 for 1992.

(2) Figures for other selected countries were extracted from the

"Digest of Education Statistics 1995" published by the U.S. Department

of Education and based upon full time equivalent students.

(3) Expenditure includes current and capital expenditure. The expenditure

for Hong Kong excludes capital expenditure for large scale projects. The coverage of "current" and "capital" expenditure between countries may differ.
