A spokesman for the Committee has emphasised that these figures were the result of a survey of pay trends in the private companies. Pay adjustment in the civil service is a separate matter and the level of the adjustment is determined by the Government in consultation with the staff consultative councils.
The Pay Trend Survey Committee consists of representatives of the Standing Commission on Civil Service Salaries and Conditions of Service, the Standing Committee on Disciplined Services Salaries and Conditions of Service, the Administration, and the Staff Sides of the Senior Civil Service Council, the Model Scale 1 Staff Consultative Council, the Police Force Council and the Disciplined Services Consultative Council.

JLG expert talks on Budget
The Sino-British Joint Liaison Group will hold their second round of Expert Talks from May 22 to 27 in Hong Kong to discuss the preparation for Hong Kong's transitional Budget and related matters.
The British team will be led by Mr K C Kwong, Secretary for the Treasury of the Hong Kong Government. The Chinese team will be led by Mr Chen Zuo'er, Chinese Representative on the Sino-British Joint Liaison Group. They will be assisted by experts.
