JUDICIARY COMMITTED TO SERVING COMMUNITY
THE CHIEF JUSTICE, SIR TI LIANG YANG, SAID THE JUDICIARY COMMITTED TO SERVING THE COMMUNITY AND PLEDGED ΤΟ RAISING STANDARDS AND IMPROVING ITS PERFORMANCE.

SPEAKING AT A PRESS CONFERENCE THIS (TUESDAY) AFTERNOON, SAID A "QUIET MANAGEMENT REVOLUTION" WAS ALREADY IN TRAIN AND JUDICIARY HAD JUST PRODUCED A BILINGUAL BOOKLET SETTING OUT ITS "SERVING THE COMMUNITY SCHEME".
SIR TI LIANG SAID THE BOOKLET MARKED THE JUDICIARY'S MOVE INTO A MODERN MANAGEMENT AND SERVICE-ORIENTED CULTURE.
"I HOPE THAT THE BOOKLET ADDS TO THE TRANSPARENCY ACCESSIBILITY AND PUBLIC UNDERSTANDING OF OUR ROLE AND WORK, AND BRINGS THE JUDICIARY AND THE COMMUNITY CLOSER.

'WE ARE DETERMINED TO DO SO AS FAR AS OUR RESOURCES PERMIT, AND WITHOUT COMPROMISING OUR JEALOUSLY GUARDED JUDICIAL INDEPENDENCE, HE SAID.
AT THE PRESS CONFERENCE, SIR TI LIANG FORMALLY INTRODUCED THE JUDICIARY ADMINISTRATOR, MS ALICE TAI, WHO IS ON THE 100TH DAY OF TAKING UP HER OFFICE.
NOTING THAT MS TAI HAD BEEN CHARGED WITH TAKING FORWARD THE "QUIET MANAGEMENT REVOLUTION" OF THE JUDICIARY, SIR ΤΙ LIANG WAS PLEASED THAT ENCOURAGING PROGRESS HAD BEEN MADE SO FAR ON VARIOUS FRONTS.
MS' ΤΑΙ TOLD THE PRESS CONFERENCE THAT SHE WAS ADOPTING A COMPREHENSIVE, THOROUGH AND PRAGMATIC APPROACH TO IMPROVE THE JUDICIARY'S SERVICE FOR THE PUBLIC BY REDUCING DELAYS AND MAKING THE COURTS MORE EFFICIENT AND LESS DAUNTING FOR ALL COURT USERS.

"THE 'SERVING THE COMMUNITY SCHEME' IS PART OF OUR EFFORTS TO BUILD A SERVICE-ORIENTED CULTURE IN THE JUDICIARY, MS ΤΑΙ SAID, ADDING THAT THE PROGRAMME WAS BASED ON A SERIES OF PERFORMANCE PLEDGES MAINLY ON THE JUDICIARY'S SUPPORT SERVICES.
**THESE MEAN THE PROCESSING OR WAITING TIMES THAT THE PUBLIC CAN EXPECT IN AN AVERAGE CASE," SHE SAID. "A BROAD INDICATION OF THE EXPECTED WAITING TIMES FOR CASES TO COME ON FOR TRIAL IN THE LANDS TRIBUNAL, CORONERS' COURT, LABOUR TRIBUNAL, SMALL CLAIMS TRIBUNAL OBSCENE ARTICLES TRIBUNAL HAS ALSO BEEN INCLUDED."

REFERRING TO THE EFFICIENCY IMPROVEMENT INITIATIVES AIMED AT IMPROVING THE OVERALL EFFICIENCY OF THE JUDICIARY, MS TAI SAID
MS TAI SAID THESE MEASURES SOUGHT то REDUCE COURT WAITING TIMES, IMPROVE COURT FACILITIES, STRENGTHEN COURT ADMINISTRATION AND STREAMLINE SUPPORT SERVICES.
