CLIMBING LANES TO HELP EASE CONGESTION

THE COMPLETION OF CLIMBING LANES AT FOUR SECTIONS OF THE KOWLOON-BOUND CARRIAGEWAY OF TUEN MUN ROAD WILL RAISE THE OVERALL CAPACITY OF THE ROAD BY 15 PER CENT, REDUCING THE CHANCE AND DEGREE OF TRAFFIC CONGESTION ON THE ROAD.

CONSTRUCTION WORK WILL START AT THE END OF THIS MONTH FOR COMPLETION IN MID-1996.

THE CONTRACT FOR THE WORK WAS SIGNED TODAY (FRIDAY) BETWEEN THE OF ACTING DIRECTOR OF HIGHWAYS, MR YEUNG KIM-CHOY AND REPRESENTATIVES THE CONTRACTOR.

SPEAKING AFTER THE CONTRACT-SIGNING CEREMONY, THE REGIONAL TUEN MUN HIGHWAY ENGINEER/NEW TERRITORIES, MR YEUNG YU-CHEONG, SAID ROAD WAS NOW NEAR CAPACITY AND CONGESTION WOULD OCCUR WHEN THERE WAS A TRAFFIC ACCIDENT,

"THE CONSTRUCTION OF THE CLIMBING LANES WILL INCREASE THE LEVEL DESIGN CAPACITY OF THE HILLY SECTION TO MATCH WITH THAT OF THE SECTIONS WHICH IS ABOUT 4,000 VEHICLES PER
