CNTA HANDLES OVER 495,000 DECLARATIONS AND OATHS

20 PUBLIC ENQUIRY SERVICE CENTRES (PESCS) OF THE CITY AND TERRITORIES ADMINISTRATION (CNTA) HANDLED A TOTAL OF 495,418 DECLARATIONS AND OATHS IN THE LAST FINANCIAL YEAR.
THIS REPRESENTS AN INCREASE OF THREE PER CENT OVER THE FIGURE OF 480,724 IN THE SAME PERIOD LAST YEAR.
MOST, OR 201,310 WERE DECLARATIONS FOR TRUE COPIES OF
DOCUMENTS.
OTHERS WERE DECLARATIONS FOR EDUCATION AND EXAMINATIONS PURPOSES (64,036), LOSS OF DOCUMENTS (54,237), FUTURE USE (28,112), EMIGRATION (27,199) AND IMMIGRATION (24,633).
A CNTA SPOKESMAN SAID TODAY (SUNDAY) THAT THE SERVICES WERE PROVIDED FREE OF CHARGE TO THE PUBLIC FOR PRIVATE USE ONLY.
HE SAID PEOPLE WHO COULD NOT PRODUCE THE REQUIRED DOCUMENTARY PROOF TO SUBSTANTIATE THEIR CLAIMS OR TO SUPPORT THEIR APPLICATIONS FOR DOCUMENTS FROM VARIOUS NON-GOVERNMENT ORGANISATIONS COULD MAKE USE OF THE SERVICE.
IN MAKING THE DECLARATION, THE APPLICANT IS REQUIRED TO PRODUCE HIS OR HER HONG KONG IDENTITY CARD OR OTHER VALID EQUIVALENT IDENTITY DOCUMENTS AND COMPLETE THE CONTENTS OF THE STATEMENT EITHER IN ENGLISH AND CHINESE PERSONALLY IN A PRESCRIBED FORM.
"IN THE END, THE DECLARANT MAKES AN OATH IN THE SAME LANGUAGE AS THE DECLARATION IS PRESENTED BEFORE A COMMISSIONER FOR OATHS IN THE DISTRICT OFFICE," HE SAID.
