THE CHIEF JUSTICE, SIR TI LIANG YANG, TODAY (TUESDAY) WELCOMED THE APPOINTMENT OF MS ALICE TAI YUEN-YING AS JUDICIARY ADMINISTRATOR.
"GIVEN HER PROVEN ADMINISTRATIVE SKILLS, SENIOR MANAGEMENT EXPERIENCE, KNOWLEDGE OF HONG KONG, FAMILIARITY WITH THE WORKINGS OF THE GOVERNMENT, AND A SOUND LEGAL EDUCATION, I AM SURE MS TAI WILL MAKE A VALUABLE CONTRIBUTION TO THE EFFICIENT ADMINISTRATION OF THE JUDICIARY.

**WITH THE STEADY EXPANSION OF THE ACTIVITIES OF THE JUDICIARY OVER THE YEARS, GROWING SOPHISTICATION OF HONG KONG AS AN INTERNATIONAL BUSINESS CENTRE, AND RISING PUBLIC EXPECTATIONS FOR EFFICIENCY, THE TASK OF MANAGING THE JUDICIARY HAS BECOME INCREASINGLY COMPLEX.
"I AM PLEASED WITH THE OUTCOME OF THE RECRUITMENT. THIS WAS A HIGHLY COMPETITIVE EXERCISE AND I WAS GRATEFUL FOR THE INTEREST EXPRESSED BY ALL CANDIDATES," HE ADDED.
MS TAI HAS BEEN SELECTED FROM AMONGST 267 CANDIDATES.

JUDICIARY ADMINISTRATOR APPOINTED
THE GOVERNMENT ANNOUNCED TODAY (TUESDAY) THAT MS ALICE TAI YUEN-YING WILL BE APPOINTED TO THE POST OF JUDICIARY ADMINISTRATOR IN THE JUDICIARY ON MARCH 28.
AS THE JUDICIARY ADMINISTRATOR, SHE WILL HELP THE CHIEF JUSTICE IN THE OVERALL ADMINISTRATION OF THE JUDICIARY AND BE RESPONSIBLE FOR ENSURING THE PROPER ADMINISTRATION OF THE COURTS AND TRIBUNALS.
SHE WILL ALSO BE RESPONSIBLE FOR PLANNING, SECURING AND MANAGING THE JUDICIARY'S HUMAN AND FINANCIAL RESOURCES, AND FOR PLANNING AND DEVELOPING SYSTEMS AND OTHER MEASURES WHICH WILL HELP THE JUDICIARY TO ENHANCE ITS PERFORMANCE.
AGED 43, MS TAL FIRST JOINED THE GOVERNMENT AS ADMINISTRATIVE OFFICER IN 1974.
