SWD PUBLICISES FAMILY LIFE
THERE IS AN URGENT NEED TO STRENGTHEN FAMILY FUNCTIONING AND BETTER QUALITY OF FAMILY LIFE.

THIS WAS STATED BY THE DIRECTOR OF SOCIAL WELFARE, MR IAN STRACHAN WHEN LAUNCHING THE 1993/95 FAMILY LIFE EDUCATION PUBLICITY CAMPAGIN IN CENTRAL TODAY (SATURDAY).
HE SAID THE SOCIAL WELFARE DEPARTMENT AND NON-GOVERNMENT ORGANISATIONS HANDLED OVER 14,000 CASES INVOLVING FAMILY PROBLEMS LAST FISCAL YEAR.
THE NUMBER OF DIVORCE CASES HAD INCREASED BY 11 PER CENT DURING THE PAST FIVE YEARS, TO ABOUT 5,600 A YEAR.
"THE COMMITTEE ON FAMILY LIFE EDUCATION PUBLICITY CAMPAIGN THEREFORE PROPOSED STRENGTHENING FAMILY COMMUNICATION WITH CARE CONCERN' AS THE MAIN THEME FOR THE CAMPAIGN,' MR STRACHAN SAID.

AMONG THE 1,100 ENTRIES TO A SLOGAN COMPETITION IN AUGUST, SLOGANS "OPEN THE WINDOW OF YOUR HEART AND SHARE OUR INNER FEELINGS" AND "A HARMONIOUS FAMILY PROVIDES WARMTH AND CARE" WHICH HIGHLIGHT THE SIGNIFICANCE OF HARMONIOUS FAMILY TIES, HAVE BEEN SELECTED.
"THESE TWO SLOGANS WILL BE USED IN ALL OUR FUTURE PUBLICITY FORMATS," MR STRACHAN SAID.
A 13-PART RADIO SERIES "HARMONIOUS LIFE" HAS BEEN ON RADIO 5 EVERY SATURDAY SINCE EARLY SEPTEMBER.
A TELEVISION DRAMA, WITH 13 EPISODES FEATURING VIOLENCE, CHILD ABUSE AND STUDENT SUICIDE, WILL GO ON AIR NEXT YEAR.
ANOTHER SERIES OF RADIO PROGRAMMES IS BEING PLANNED.
