NEW POST OFFICE FOR PEAK

THE POSTMASTER GENERAL, MR M PAGLIARI, ANNOUNCED TODAY (FRIDAY) THAT A NEW PEAK POST OFFICE WILL OPEN AT 9.30 AM ON MONDAY (JUNE 28).

IT IS LOCATED AT SHOP UG2 OF THE UPPER PEAK TRAM TERMINUS, 122 PEAK ROAD.

THE OFFICE WILL REPLACE THE EXISTING ONE AT THE UPPER PEAK TRAM STATION BUILDING WHICH WILL CLOSE FOR BUSINESS AFTER 1 PM ON SATURDAY (JUNE 26).

BUSINESS HOURS AND TELEPHONE NUMBER OF THE NEW OFFICE THE SAME AS THOSE OF THE EXISTING OFFICE.

LOCAL PHILATELISTS WILL WISH TO NOTE THAT A SPECIAL SERVICE WILL BE AVAILABLE AT THE PEAK POST OFFICE ON JUNE 28.

UNREGISTERED FULLY POSTAGE PREPAID "FIRST DAY COVERS' PREPARED PRIVATELY, AND BEARING A LOCAL ADDRESS, WILL BE ACCEPTED OVER THE COUNTER, IMPRESSED WITH THE NORMAL POST OFFICE DATESTAMP AND HANDED BACK TO THE PERSON PRESENTING THEM.

FOUR DRAFT DEVELOPMENT PERMISSION AREA PLANS ANNOUNCED

THE TOWN PLANNING BOARD TODAY (FRIDAY) ANNOUNCED THE PUBLICATION OF FOUR NEW DRAFT DEVELOPMENT PERMISSION AREA (DPA) PLANS FOR LAM TEI AND YICK YUEN, SO KWUN WAT IN TUEN MUN, TONG YAN SAN TSUEN AND PING SHAN IN YUEN LONG.

THE PLANS COVER ABOUT 2,260 HECTARES OF RURAL AREAS IN THE TERRITORIES.

ONE OF THE MAIN

OBJECTIVES FOR ZONING THEM AS DEVELOPMENT PERMISSION AREAS IS TO PREVENT FURTHER UNPLANNED PROLIFERATION OF UNDESIRABLE DEVELOPMENTS AND USES WHICH HAVE CAUSED DEGRADATION OF THE RURAL ENVIRONMENT.

IT IS ALSO INTENDED THAT THE INTRODUCTION OF THE PLANS WILL PROVIDE GUIDANCE FOR PLANNING AND FACILITATE DEVELOPMENT CONTROL WITHIN THE DEVELOPMENT PERMISSION AREAS DURING THE PERIOD REQUIRED FOR DETAILED ANALYSIS OF LAND USE PATTERN, STUDY OF PROVISIONS AND EXAMINATION OF DEVELOPMENT OPTIONS ZONING PLANS ARE FORMULATED.

ONE MAIN FEATURE OF THE DPA PLANS, WHICH IS DIFFERENT FROM THAT OF THE OUTLINE ZONING PLANS ADOPTED FOR THE URBAN AND NEW TOWNS, IS THE DESIGNATION OF AREAS AS "UNSPECIFIED USE AREAS WITHIN WHICH ALL DEVELOPMENTS, EXCEPT THOSE USES WHICH ARE ALWAYS TERMS OF THE NOTES OF THE PLANS, WILL REQUIRE TOWN PLANNING BOARD.
