QUESTIONS AND ANSWERS AT GOVERNOR'S PRESS CONFERENCE

First of all can I thank all the
media who've followed
us round from Los Angeles to Washington to New York, and thank you very much indeed for looking after us so well.
I hope you're not, too tired. And I hope you've had as agreeable a time as I have.
I think that this has been a very useful visit to Washington and New York. I'm obviously particularly grateful for the extensive access that we've had, for the reception that I received, both in washington and here.
I think that's a reflection of the interest that there is in Hong Kong and in Hong Kong's success, I couldn't have hoped for a better series of meetings, and I couldn't have hoped to be here at a better time, because plainly the new administration is in the midst of considering its policy on trade with China and MFN in particular.
And I'm certain after the meetings I had in Washington that Hong Kong's position is going to be borne in mind in the decisions which US officials come to.
I notice from the press reports that Winston Lord is travelling shortly to Peking and I hope that mission is successful.

I think that the issues which are most concerning the
administration and Congressional leaders are those with which you're all familiar.
First of all, concern which was widely expressed on Capitol Hill, first of all, concern about human rights in China.
