NEW LONG SERVICE PAYMENT SCHEME TAKES EFFECT
EMPLOYERS
THAT HAD COME
THE LABOUR DEPARTMENT TODAY (TUESDAY) REMINDED THE EMPLOYMENT (AMENDMENT) (LONG SERVICE PAYMENT) ORDINANCE INTO EFFECT LAST FRIDAY (NOVEMBER 29).
WHO UNDER THE NEW ORDINANCE, AN EMPLOYEE BELOW 45 YEARS OF AGE
CONTINUOUS
WITH SERVICE
AN HAS COMPLETED FIVE YEARS'
EMPLOYER IS ENTITLED TO LONG SERVICE PAYMENT ON DISMISSAL.
HIS ENTITLEMENT WILL INCREASE IN PROPORTION TO SERVICE, UNTIL HE GETS THE FULL RATE OF PAYMENT.

FOR INSTANCE, AN EMPLOYEE AGED 35 AND WITH FIVE YEARS' SHOULD BE GIVEN 50 PER CENT OF HIS FULL ENTITLEMENT.
SERVICE
ON THE OTHER HAND, AN EMPLOYEE AGED 42 AND SERVICE WILL RECEIVE LONG SERVICE PAYMENT IN FULL.
WITH EIGHT
YEARS'
THE SCHEME PROVIDES THAT AN EMPLOYEE WITH THE REQUIRED LENGTH BY HIS EMPLOYER UPON OF SERVICE WILL BE GIVEN LONG SERVICE PAYMENT DISMISSAL FOR REASONS OTHER THAN SUMMARY DISMISSAL OR REDUNDANCY.
BE CALCULATED THE AMOUNT OF LUMP SUM PAYMENT WILL CONTINUE TO
LAST FULL MONTH'S WAGE FOR AT TWO-THIRDS OF THE EMPLOYEE'S
EVERY COMPLETE YEAR OF SERVICE, SUBJECT TO A MAXIMUM OF 12 MONTHS' WAGES.

EMPLOYEES EARNING ENTITLEMENT WILL REMAIN TO BE $15,000.
