AVAILABLE REGISTRATION ORDINANCE STIPULATED FOUR DISCIPLINARY ORDERS TO THE DENTAL COUNCIL.

REMOVING A
DENTIST'S
NAME FROM THE REGISTER THE DENTIST OR POSTPONING
PERMANENTLY OR TEMPORARILY, REPRIMANDING JUDGEMENT ON THE CASE FOR TWO YEARS.
IT IS ALSO STIPULATED IN THE ORDINANCE THAT ALL ORDERS MADE TO BE PUBLISHED IN THE GOVERNMENT GAZETTE.

SUBSEQUENT
TO THE PROPOSED POWER TO SUSPEND THE APPLICATION OF ANY ORDER MADE, THE ORIGINAL POWER TO POSTPONE JUDGEMENT FOR TWO YEARS . WOULD HAVE TO BE DELETED.

A BILL SEEKING TO CLARIFY THAT IMMOVABLE PROPERTIES ARE WITHIN CONSUMER COUNCIL'S PURVIEW WAS INTRODUCED INTO THE LEGISLATIVE COUNCIL TODAY (WEDNESDAY).
THE
(AMENDMENT)
MOVING THE SECOND READING OF THE CONSUMER COUNCIL BILL 1991, THE SECRETARY FOR TRADE AND INDUSTRY, MR T.H. CHAU, SAID THIS WOULD REMOVE ANY UNCERTAINTY IN RESPECT OF THE COUNCIL'S ABILITY TO ASSIST AND ADVISE CONSUMERS REGARDING PROPERTY
AND TRANSACTIONS TENANCY MATTERS.
THE
THE SECRETARY SAID THE BILL ALSO PROPOSED TO REDUCE THE QUORUM
FOR CONSUMER COUNCIL MEETINGS FROM A REQUIREMENT
MAJORITY OF THE MEMBERS, WHICH MEANS AT LEAST 12, TO 11 MEMBERS SO AS TO GIVE CONSUMER COUNCIL SOME FLEXIBILITY IN THE CONDUCT OF ITS BUSINESS.
IT ALSO
SECTION 20 OF THE ORDINANCE WHICH PROHIBITED THE EXPLOITATION OF THE COUNCIL'S NAME AND RESEARCH FINDINGS FOR ADVERTISING PURPOSES, BY TIGHTENING THE LEGAL LANGUAGE AND INCREASING THE LEVEL OF FINES, FROM THE PRESENT MAXIMUM OF $5,000 TO THE PROPOSED $100,000, MR CHAU SAID.
