TRANSPORT COMPLAINTS QUARTERLY FIGURES RELEASED

DURING THE SECOND QUARTER OF 1987/88, THE TRANSPORT COMPLAINTS UNIT (TCU) OF THE TRANSPORT ADVISORY COMMITTEE RECEIVED A TOTAL OF 1,985 COMPLAINTS, AN INCREASE OF 15 PER CENT ON THE FIRST QUARTER.

ACCORDING TO THE TCU REPORT JUST RELEASED, COMPLAINTS ABOUT PUBLIC TRANSPORT SERVICES TOTALLED 943 OR 47 PER CENT OF ALL THE COMPLAINTS RECEIVED DURING THE PERIOD UNDER REVIEW FROM JULY 1 то SEPTEMBER 30. THEY WERE STILL THE LARGEST SINGLE GROUP OF COMPLAINTS HANDLED BY THE UNIT.

REGARDING THE ADEQUACY OF PUBLIC TRANSPORT SERVICE, 201 COMPLAINTS WERE RECEIVED. PROPOSALS MADE BY THE COMPLAINANTS INCLUDED INCREASING THE EXISTING FREQUENCY OF SERVICE, INTRODUCTION OF NEW ROUTES AND EXTENSION OF EXISTING ROUTES.

THERE WERE A TOTAL OF 129 COMPLAINTS AGAINST BUS SERVICES. OF THEM, 41 WERE DIRECTED AT THE BUS SERVICE ON HONG KONG ISLAND AND 88 WERE DIRECTED AT KOWLOON AND THE NEW TERRITORIES.

THESE COMPLAINTS MAINLY CAME FROM BUS COMMUTERS IN THE SOUTHERN DISTRICT ON HONG KONG ISLAND, WEST KOWLOON, KWUN TONG AND NEW TOWNS IN THE NEW TERRITORIES INCLUDING SHA TIN, KWAI TSING, TSURN WAN AND TUEN MUN.

COMPLAINTS CONCERNING THE STANDARD OF SERVICE OF PUBLIC TRANSPORT MADE UP 710 CASES OR 75 PER CENT OF THE CASES INVOLVING PUBLIC TRANSPORT SERVICES. THESE COMPLAINTS WERE TAKEN UP INDIVIDUALLY WITH THE TRANSPORT OPERATORS CONCERNED OR THE RELEVANT AUTHORITIES.

WERE

COMPLAINTS ABOUT BUSES NOT KEEPING TO SCHEDULED FREQUENCY MAINLY LEVELLED AT EXTERNAL BUS ROUTES IN KOWLOON WEST AND SHA TIN, AND THE SOUTHERN DISTRICT ON HONG KONG ISLAND.

REGARDING GREEN MINIBUS SERVICES, THE MAIN THAT MINIBUSES WERE NOT ADHERING TO APPROVED SCHEDULE THE MISCONDUCT OF DRIVERS.

COMPLAINTS WERE OR ROUTES AND

COMPLAINTS ABOUT TAXI SERVICE ROSE FROM 237 CASES IN THE PREVIOUS QUARTER TO 392 CASES, AN INCREASE OF 65.4 PER CENT.

AS IN THE PREVIOUS QUARTER, MOST OF THE COMPLAINTS ABOUT TAXI SERVICE WERE CONCERNED WITH MALPRACTICES AND MISCONDUCT OF TAXI DRIVERS, SUCH AS TAXI DRIVERS REFUSING HIRE OR SOLICITING PASSENGERS, NOT TAKING THE MOST DIRECT ROUTE, FAILING

ΤΟ DRIVE ΤΟ DESTINATIONS AND OVERCHARGING.
