"IN THE NEXT FIVE YEARS, ANOTHER TWO YOUTH CENTRES, EIGHT CHILDREN AND YOUTH CENTRES, ONE GROUP WORK UNIT, ONE CHILDREN'S HOME, EIGHT CHILD CARE CENTRES, SIX SOCIAL CENTRES FOR THE ELDERLY, ONE DAY CARE CENTRE FOR THE ELDERLY, FOUR HOSTELS FOR OLD PEOPLE, FOUR CARE AND ATTENTION HOMES FOR THE AGED, THREE SHELTERED WORKSHOPS, TWO HOSTELS FOR THE DISABLED, TWO HALF-WAY HOUSES, ONE EARLY EDUCATION AND TRAINING CENTRE AND ONE OUTREACHING SOCIAL WORK TEAM WILL BE UP IN THE DISTRICT.

MR LEUNG CONCEDED THAT THE EXPANSION OF SERVICES WOULD INEVITABLY FALL BEHIND ACTUAL DEMANDS IN THE FAST-GROWING NEW TOWNS.

"NEVERTHELESS, THE PROBLEM OF INADEQUATE SERVICES IN THE TRANSITION PERIOD WILL BE RESOLVED AS LONG AS THE GOVERNMENT RESIDENTS CO-OPERATE AND WORK THROUGH CONSULTATION AND MUTUAL UNDERSTANDING," HE SAID.
