AS REGARDS SOUND BROADCASTING, 94 PER CENT OF THE HOUSEHOLDS INTERVIEWED HAD A RADIO, AND ON AVERAGE SPENT 1.84 HOURS A DAY LISTENING TO RADIO PROGRAMMES. THE MAJORITY OF THE RESPONDENTS WERE SATISFIED WITH PROGRAMMES ON THE RADIO.
THE MOST POPULAR PROGRAMMES WERE NEWS AND WEATHER BULLETIN, POPULAR MUSIC AND DRAMA. YOUTH PROGRAMMES, CHINESE OPERA, PHONE - IN PROGRAMMES ON PERSONAL MATTERS, SFORTS AND WOMEN'S PROGRAMMES, ON THE OTHER HAND, WERE LESS POPULAR.
THE
THOUGH THE MAJORITY OF THE RESPONDENTS LISTENED TO NEWS ON RADIO, RADIO WAS NOT THEIR MAJOR SOURCE OF NEWS; INSTEAD, TELEVISION WAS.
SHORT STORIES AND PROGRAMMES CONCERNING SEXUAL RELATIONSHIP WERE CONSIDERED ACCEPTABLE AFTER 11.30 PM, BUT NOT DIALOGUES WITH SEXUAL INNUENDO.
ONLY 11 PER CENT OF THE RESPONDENTS WERE DISSATISFIED WITH COMMERCIALS ON RADIO, AND THE SINGLE MOST IMPORTANT COMPLAINT WAS THERE BEING TOO MANY OF THEM.
"THE FINDINGS OF THE SURVEY WILL BE OF GREAT HELP TO THE WORK OF TELA AND WILL FORM A USEFUL BASIS OF REFERENCE FOR THE BROADCASTING AUTHORITY WHICH WILL SHORTLY COME INTO BEING, A SPOKESMAN FOR TELA SAID.

JUNE ORDERS-ON-HAND, EMPLOYMENT AND PAYROLL FIGURES RELEASED
THE AVERAGE VOLUME OF ORDERS-ON-HAND (IN TERMS OF MONTHS) AS REPORTED BY THE 200 LARGEST FIRMS IN THE MANUFACTURING SECTOR IN JUNE 1987 REMAINED AT ABOUT THE SAME LEVEL AS IN MAY 1987, BUT INCREASED SLIGHTLY OVER JUNE 1986, ACCORDING TO THE RESULTS OF A SURVEY RELEASED TODAY (THURSDAY) BY THE CENSUS AND STATISTICS DEPARTMENT.
COMPARING JUNE 1987 WITH THE SAME MONTH IN 1986, SIGNIFICANT INCREASES IN THE VOLUME OF ORDERS WERE RECORDED IN THE FABRICATED METAL PRODUCTS INDUSTRY AND, TO A LESSER EXTENT, IN THE WEARING APPAREL AND TEXTILE INDUSTRIES.
HOWEVER, ORDERS IN THE PLASTIC PRODUCTS INDUSTRY DROPPED.
