THE KWUN TONG DISTRICT BOARD HAS PROVIDED HELP TO MORE THAN HALF THE CASES BROUGHT UP BY RESIDENTS UNDER A MEET THE PUBLIC SCHEME BETWEEN APRIL AND SEPTEMBER THIS YEAR.
A KWUN TONG DISTRICT OFFICE SPOKESMAN SAID BOARD MEMBERS HANDLED A TOTAL OF 176 CASES DURING THE PERIOD. OF THESE, 92 CASES (OR 52 PER CENT) HAD BEEN DEALT WITH AND ASSISTANCE GIVEN TO THE APPLICANTS.
ANOTHER 52 CASES (OR 29.5 PER CENT) WERE STILL BEING CONSIDERED BY THE DEPARTMENTS CONCERNED. THE REMAINING 32 CASES (18 PER CENT) HAD NOT BEEN TAKEN UP BECAUSE THEY WERE IN CONFLICT WITH EXISTING GOVERNMENT POLICY.
MOST OF THE CASES (73 PER CENT) RAISED RELATED TO REQUESTS AND COMPLAINTS ON HOUSING MATTERS. THE REMAINING CASES WERE ON ENVIRONMENT, TRAFFIC AND TRANSPORT, ILLEGAL HAWKING, LAW AND ORDER SITUATION.
THE SPOKESMAN SAID THE RESPONSE OF LOCAL RESIDENTS TO THE MEET THE PUBLIC SCHEME HAD BEEN ENCOURAGING.
HE SAID MOST RESIDENTS SEEKING HELP WERE RESIDENTS OF PUBLIC HOUSING ESTATES.
THE AVERAGE WAITING TIME BETWEEN THE DAY OF APPOINTMENT AND INTERVIEW WAS ABOUT ONE WEEK. HOWEVER, WAITING TIME FOR URGENT CASES WERE MUCH SHORTER AS SPECIAL ARRANGEMENT COULD BE MADE, THE SPOKESMAN ADDED.
