MEASURES TO RELIEVE NOISE NUISANCE

RESIDENTS OF ABERDEEN CENTRE CAN NOW SLEEP WELL AT NIGHT AFTER RECTIFICATION WORK WAS DONE TO THE NOISY WATER COOLERS OF A NEARBY FACTORY, FOLLOWING A COMPLAINT MADE TO THE SOUTHERN DISTRICT BOARD.
USING THE +MY SUGGESTIONS TO THE SOUTHERN DISTRICT BOARD+ POSTGRAMME SCHEME, ABERDEEN CENTRE RESIDENTS COMPLAINED THAT EXCESSIVE NOISE GENERATED BY THE ROUND-THE-CLOCK OPERATION OF THE WATER COOLING SYSTEM SERIOUSLY DISTURBED THE IR SLEEP.
THE SOUTHERN DISTRICT OFFICE REFLECTED THE PROBLEM TO THE URBAN SERVICES DEPARTMENT WHICH CARRIED OUT FOLLOW-UP INVESTIGATIONS. APPROPRIATE ACTION WAS TAKEN AND THE FACTORY MANAGEMENT WAS TOLD TO CARRY OUT NOISE REDUCTION WORK.
+TWO NOISE SURVEYS CONDUCTED AFTER REMEDIAL WORK FOUND THAT THE ANNOYING TONE HAD BEEN ELIMINATED AND NOISE EMISSION IS NOW BEING MAINTAINED AT ACCEPTABLE LEVELS, A DISTRICT OFFICE SPOKESMAN SAID.
THE SPOKESMAN SAID THE POSTGRAMME SCHEME WAS INTRODUCED IN 1983 FOR RESIDENTS, PARTICULAPLY THOSE LIVING IN REMOTE PARTS OF THE DISTRICT SUCH AS THE BAYS AREA, STANLEY AND SHEK O, TO EXPRESS THEIR VIEWS TO THE BOARD.
DURING THE PERIOD BETWEEN JANUARY 1984 AND NOVEMBER 1985, THE BOARD HAD RECEIVED 292 POSTGRAMMES FROM RESIDENTS GIVING SUGGESTIONS OR LODGING COMPLAINTS ON TRAFFIC AND TRANSPORT, ENVIRONMENTAL IMPROVEMENT AND LAW AND ORDER MATTERS.
THE POSTAGE-FREE POSTGRAMMES, PUBLISHED BY THE DISTRICT BOARD, ARE OBTAINABLE AT 72 DISTRIBUTION POINTS THROUGHOUT THE DISTRICT.
THESE INCLUDE THE DISTRICT OFFICE AND ITS SUB-OFFICES, POST OFFICES, GOVERNMENT OFFICES, COMMUNITY HALLS, MAJOR BANKS, PETROL STATIONS AND VARIOUS KAIFONG AND RESIDENTS ASSOCIATIONS.
