MR CHU SAID THAT ANOTHER MISSION TO MELBOURNE, ADELAIDE AND SYDNEY HAS BEEN PLANNED FOR LATER THIS YEAR AS PART OF THE DEPARTMENT'S CONTINUING EFFORTS TO PROMOTE INDUSTRIAL INVESTMENT FROM AUSTRALIA.
MR CHU SAID THAT DURING THE MISSION HE ALSO MET OFFICIALS OF THE STATE GOVERNMENT AND REPRESENTATIVES FROM LOCAL BANKS AND INDUSTRIAL ORGANISATIONS TO DISCUSS MATTERS OF MUTUAL INTEREST ON INDUSTRIAL INVESTMENT.

THE SECOND FLOATING HOLIDAY FOR THIS YEAR FALLS ON AUGUST 25, THE LAST MONDAY IN AUGUST.
ALL MANUAL EMPLOYEES AND THOSE NON-MANUAL EMPLOYEES EARNING NOT MORE THAN $10 500 A MONTH ARE ENTITLED TO BE PAID FOR THAT HOLIDAY IF THEY HAVE WORKED CONTINUOUSLY FOR THREE MONTHS PRECEDING THE HOLIDAY.
A LABOUR DEPARTMENT SPOKESMAN SAID THAT UNDER THE EMPLOYMENT ORDINANCE. IF EMPLOYERS HAVE NOT FIXED THE DATE FOR THAT HOLIDAY AND THEIR EMPLOYEES HAVE NOT REQUESTED IT TO BE ADDED TO THE IR PAID ANNUAL LEAVE, THE EMPLOYEES SHALL BE GRANTED THE SECOND FLOATING HOLIDAY ON THE ABOVE DATE.
+HOLIDAY PAY SHOULD BE EQUIVALENT TO AN EMPLOYEE'S EARNINGS ON A NORMAL WORKING DAY AND SHOULD INCLUDE BASIC WAGES AS WELL AS ALLOWANCES THAT CAN BE EXPRESSED IN MONEY TERMS SUCH AS MEALS AND COST OF LIVING ALLOWANCES, THE SPOKESMAN SAID.
+WHERE THE EARNINGS VARY FROM DAY TO DAY, THE HOLIDAY PAY SHOULD BE THE AVERAGE DAILY EARNINGS DURING EVERY COMPLETE WAGE PERIOD, WHICH COULD BE BETWEEN 28 DAYS TO 31 DAYS, PRECEDING THE HOLIDAY.+
IF AN EMPLOYEE IS REQUIRED TO WORK ON A STATUTORY HOLIDAY, HE OR SHE MUST BE GIVEN AN ALTERNATIVE DAY-OFF WITHIN 60 DAYS BEFORE OR AFTER THAT DAY.
