THE GOVERNMENT HAS CONTINUED TO PROVIDE FUNDS TO THE TWO UNIVERSITIES AND THE TWO POLYTECHNICS TO ENABLE THEM TO INCREASE THE NUMBER OF PLACES FOR STUDENTS LOCALLY, AND GRANTS ARE ALSO BEING PROVIDED TO THE HONG KONG BAPTIST COLLEGE FOR RE-ORGANISING ITS ACADEMIC AND ADMINISTRATIVE STRUCTURE PRIOR TO COMMENCING DEGREE PROGRAMMES.
+THE GOVERNMENT ALSO INTENDS TO PROCEED WITH THE PLANNING OF A THIRD UNIVERSITY, THEREBY INCREASING THE NUMBER OF FIRST YEAR, FIRST DEGREE PLACES AVAILABLE TO OUR STUDENTS, HE SAID
HE WENT ON TO ELABORATE ON THE ROLE OF THE VOCATIONAL TRAINING COUNCIL OF WHICH HE IS A MEMBER AND HIGHLIGHTED THE PHENOMENAL GROWTH IN GOVERNMENT EXPENDITURE ON VOCATIONAL TRAINING OVER THE PAST THREE YEARS.

AS ONE OF THE FASTEST GROWING NEW TOWNS, TUEN MUN HAS DEVELOPED INTO A MAJOR INDUSTRIAL AREA IN HONG KONG WITH POTENTIAL TO BECOME EVEN BIGGER, ACCORDING TO A PAMPHLET, PUBLISHED BY THE COMMERCE AND INDUSTRY COMMITTEE OF THE TUEN MUN DISTRICT BOARD.
THE PAMPHLET SETS OUT VARIOUS ADVANTAGES FOR INVESTMENT IN
THE DISTRICT AS AN INDUSTRIAL AREA.
AFTER THE WORLDWIDE ECONOMIC RECESSION IN THE EARLY 1980'S, INDUSTRIAL DEVELOPMENT IN TUEN MUN WENT INTO HIGH GEAR AS MAJOR | 4PROVEMENTS TURNED THE NEW TOWN INTO A MORE COMPETITIVE INDUSTRIAL AREA.
SINCE THE 70'S, MORE THAN 120 HECTARES OF LAND HAS BEEN DEVELOPED FOR INDUSTRIAL USE AND A FURTHER 100 HECTARES WILL BE PROVIDED BEFORE THE NEW TOWN IS FULLY DEVELOPED, ALL OF WHICH WILL GENERATE ENOUGH JOBS FOR LOCAL RESIDENT WORKERS.
TUEN MUN HAS CONSIDERABLE COST ADVANTAGES FOR THE INDUSTRIALIS VISHING TO SET UP A FACTORY, COMPARED WITH OTHER INDUSTRIAL AREAS OF HONG KONG.
BOTH SALE PRICES AND RENTS FOR FLATTED FACTORIES IN TUEN MUN ARE CONSIDERABLY CHEAPER. SALE PRICES RANGE BETWEEN 01 600 AND * 13 PER SQUARE METRE WHILE RENTS FOR FLATTED FACTORIES RANGE FROM BETWEEN 18 AND $22 PER SQUARE METRE.
IN 1933, THE TOTAL INDUSTRIAL FLOORSPACE IN THE DISTRICT WAS ABOUT ARO 000 SQUARE METRES, OF WHICH AROUND 35 PER CENT WAS VACAN IN 1935 AVAILABLE FLOORSPACE REACHED 1 300 000 SQUARE METRES WITH A VACANCY RATE OF LESS THAN 15 PER CENT.
