FEWER TRANSPORT COMPLAINTS NOTED

THE TRANSPORT ADVISORY COMMITTEE'S TRANSPORT COMPLAINTS UNIT RECORDED FEWER COMPLAINTS IN THE FIRST QUARTER OF 1985.
EXECUTIVE SECRETARY OF TCU, MR STEPHEN PANG, IN THE LATEST QUARTERLY REPORT RELEASED TODAY SAID THAT THERE WAS A DECLINE IN COMPLAINTS ABOUT PUBLIC TRANSPORT SERVICES, TRAFFIC CONDITIONS AND ROAD MAINTENANCE.
A TOTAL OF 950 COMPLAINTS WERE RECEIVED, 23 PER CENT LESS THAN THE PREVIOUS QUARTER'S 1 229 COMPLAINTS. THE FIGURE ALSO REPRESENTS A DECREASE OF 12 PER CENT AS COMPARED WITH THE TOTAL OF 1 084 COMPLAINTS IN THE SAME PERIOD OF 1984.
MR PANG NOTED HOWEVER, THAT PUBLIC TRANSPORT SERVICES WERE STILL THE MAIN TOPIC OF CONCERN. THEY ACCOUNTED FOR NEARLY HALF OF ALL THE COMPLAINTS RECEIVED. NEVERTHELESS, THE ACTUAL NUMBER FELL FROM 581 IN THE LAST QUARTER TO 455, A DECREASE OF 22 PER CENT.
+COMPLAINTS ABOUT INADEQUATE BUS SERVICES FOR KOWLOON AND THE NEW TERRITORIES WENT DOWN FROM 122 IN THE LAST QUARTER TO 101. THIS IS THE SECOND CONSECUTIVE DROP SINCE THE THIRD QUARTER IN 1984 IN WHICH 157 COMPLAINTS WERE RECORDED,+ SAID MR PANG.
+THERE WERE ALSO FEWER COMPLAINTS ON SIMILAR GROUNDS FOR HONG KONG ISLAND. THE NUMBER FELL FROM 49 IN THE LAST QUARTER TO 34,+ HE SAID.
ALTOGETHER 81 COMPLAINTS CONCERNING CMB'S STANDARD OF SERVICE WERE RECEIVED.
*THE FIGURE REPRESENTS A DECREASE OF 22 PER CENT WHEN COMPARED WITH 104 COMPLAINTS IN THE LAST QUARTER. THE MAIN REDUCTION IS IN COMPLAINTS ABOUT CMB DRIVERS, CASES OF THIS KIND DECREASED BY MORE THAN ONE-THIRD FROM 35 IN THE LAST QUARTER TO 22. COMPLAINTS
ABOUT BUSES NOT KEEPING TO SCHEDULED FREQUENCY ALSO DECREASED SLIGHTLY FROM 41 IN THE LAST QUARTER TO 37,+ SAID MR PANG,
A TOTAL OF 74 COMPLAINTS ABOUT KMB'S STANDARD OF SERVICE WERE RECORDED, 28 CASES MORE THAN THE LAST QUARTER.
+ THE UPWARD TREND WAS MAINLY DUE TO INCREASED COMPLAINTS CONCERNING KMB BUS CAPTAINS. THE NUMBER WENT UP FROM 13 IN THE LAST QUARTER TO 33. COMPLAINTS ABOUT BUSES NOT KEEPING TO SCHEDULED FREQUENCY ALSO SHOWED A SMALL INCREASE FROM 25 IN THE LAST QUARTER TO 30,+ SAID MR PANG.
THE FERRY SERVICES OPERATED BY THE HONGKONG AND YAUMATI FERRY COMPANY LTD (HYF) RECEIVED FEWER COMPLAINTS. TWENTY-TWO COMPLAINTS WERE RECORDED COMPARED WITH 33 IN THE LAST QUARTER.
