CLOSURE OF GRASS PITCHES

THE URBAN COUNCIL ANNOUNCED TODAY THAT THE GRASS PITCHES AT THE ABERDEEN AND HAPPY VALLEY SPORTS GROUNDS AND THOSE AT THE HO MAN TIN EAST SERVICE RESERVOIR PLAYGROUND HAVE BEEN TEMPORARILY CLOSED.

THIS IS TO FACILITATE RETURFING WORK TO BE CARRIED OUT AT THESE GROUNDS WHICH HAVE BEEN EXTENSIVELY USED BY THE PUBLIC IN THE PAST MONTHS.

IT IS EXPECTED THAT THE PITCHES WILL BE RE-OPENED TO THE PUBLIC IN EARLY SEPTEMBER.

MEANWHILE, THE GRASS PITCHES AT MORSE PARK AND TAI HANG TUNG RECREATION GROUND WILL BE CLOSED FOR THREE MONTHS, STARTING FROM MID-JUNE.

ADDITION OF MARRIED CHILDREN AND

SPOUSES TO PUBLIC HOUSING TENANCIES

ALTOGETHER 290 SONS-IN-LAW AND 1 410 DAUGHTERS-IN-LAW WERE ADDED TO PUBLIC HOUSING TEN ANCIES IN 1983, THUS ALLOWING SOME 1 700 SECOND-GENERATION FAMILIES TO LIVE IN ESTATES WITHOUT GOING THROUGH THE NORMAL WAITING LIST PROCEDURE.

THIS IS REVEALED IN THE CONSULTATIVE DOCUMENT OF THE HOUSING AUTHORITY WHICH IS AT PRESENT CONTINUING TO SEEK MORE PUBLIC VIEWS ON VARIOUS ASPECTS OF PUBLIC HOUSING ALLOCATION POLICIES.

AMONG THE ISSUES COVERED BY THE DOCUMENT IS THE ADDITION OF MARRIED CHILDREN AND FAMILIES TO PUBLIC HOUSING TENANCIES, ON WHICH THE AUTHORITY WOULD WELCOME MORE VIEWS.

THE DOCUMENT RAISES THE POINTS OF WHETHER MARRIED CHILDREN, AND THEIR SPOUSES, OF AUTHORISED PUBLIC HOUSING TENANTS SHOULD BE REQUIRED TO MOVE OUT, OR WHETHER THEY SHOULD BE ALLOWED TO STAY UNDER CERTAIN SPECIFIED CONDITIONS.

IT SETS OUT THE BACKGROUND AND EXISTING POLICY, POLICY CONSIDERATIONS AND OPTIONS FOR PUBLIC DISCUSSION.

UNDER PRESENT POLICY ADDITION IS ALLOWED IF THERE IS SPACE IN THE FLAT AND NO OVERCROWDING WILL OCCUR AS A RESULT, AND IF - THE TENANT OR HIS SPOUSE IS SOCIALY OR FINANCIALLY DEPENDENT

ON THE YOUNG PEOPLE.

THE DOCUMENT SAYS: +WHILE THIS POLICY IS GENERALLY WELL ACCEPTED BY TENANTS, IT DOES NOT APPEAR TO BE FAIR TO APPLICANTS ON THE WAITING LIST, BECAUSE THE SECOND-GENERATION FAMILIES ARE NOT SUBJECT TO ANY INCOME TEST.
