A TOTAL OF 63 COMPLAINTS ABOUT MAXICABS WERE RECEIVED IN THE QUARTER.
ALTHOUGH THE FIGURE REPRESENTS AN INCREASE OF ONLY ONE CASE OVER THE PREVIOUS QUARTER, IT WAS DOUBLE THE TOTAL OF 29 CASES RECORDED IN THE SAME PERIOD OF LAST YEAR.
+THE MAIN AREAS CONTRIBUTING TO THE INCREASE IN COMPLAINTS ABOUT MAXICABS OVER THE YEAR WERE INADEQUATE SERVICE, NON-ADHERENCE TO APPROVED ROUTING AND THE CONDUCT AND BEHAVIOUR OF DRIVERS,+ MR PANG SAID.
COMPLAINTS ABOUT TAXI DRIVERS' MALPRACTICES CONTINUED TO BE LOW 30 CASES AS AGAINST 31 RECEIVED IN THE PREVIOUS QUARTER.
SINCE +NO COMPLAINT CONCERNING TAXI SERVICE WAS RECORDED. APRIL 1982, TCU HAS NOT RECEIVED ANY COMPLAINT IN THIS CATEGORY,+ HE SAID.
THE NUMBER OF COMPLAINTS ON TRAFFIC ENGINEERING MATTERS SHOWED A DECLINE.
OF THE 278 COMPLAINTS REGISTERED IN THE QUARTER, 139 CASES (50 PER CENT) WERE ABOUT ROAD CONGESTION, A FEW OF WHICH WERE RECEIVED AS A RESULT OF THE TRAFFIC CHAOS CAUSED BY THE TAXI STRIKE IN JANUARY.
THE OTHER 50 PER CENT WERE MAINLY COMPLAINTS ABOUT TRAFFIC AIDS, PEDESTRIAN FACILITIES AND PARKING FACILITIES.

YOUTH CENTRES MUST CREATE AN ATTRACTIVE ENVIRONMENT AND A FRIENDLY ATMOSPHERE WHERE YOUNG PEOPLE WILL FEEL AT HOME AND WILL WANT TO SPEND THEIR LEISURE TIME, THE DIRECTOR OF SOCIAL WELFARE, MR JOHN CHAMBERS, SAID TODAY (SATURDAY).
