SPEECH BY HIS EXCELLENCY THE GOVERNOR SIR EDWARD YOUDĖ, GCMG, MBE, AT THE OPENING
CEREMONY OF THE SAI KUNG TANG SHIU KIN
SPORTS GROUND ON 27 MAY 1983
Mr Heywood, Sir Shiu-kin and Lady Tang, Ladies and Gentlemen,
We are very glad to be here today to mark the
completion of this sports ground which is to be named after its generous benefactor, Sir Shiu-kin Tang. Here and
elsewhere in the New Territories, Sir Shiu-kin Tang's
generous contributions to a wide variety of community and
recreational projects have given invaluable support to
Government's efforts to provide better sporting facilities
for the New Territories residents.
Sai Kung District is renowned for its picturesque landscape and beautiful country parks which have now become an important recreational asset for urban dwellers. But there is also a need to provide more active recreational facilities for Sai Kung residents themselves. With the
completion of this project, Sai Kung will have its own sports centre which can be used for football, athletic events
and other recreation activities.
