STORAGE IN HONG KONG'S RESERVOIRS AT 9 AM TODAY (MONDAY) STOOD AT 83.0 PER CENT OF CAPACITY OR 479.216 MILLION CUBIC METRES.

THIS TIME LAST YEAR THE RESERVOIRS CONTAINED 258.981 MILLION CUBIC METRES OF WATER, REPRESENTING 44.8 PER CENT OF CAPACITY,

TRAINING COURSE FOR MUSIC TEACHERS

MORE THAN 300 PRIMARY AND SECONDARY SCHOOL MUSIC TEACHERS ARE NOW ATTENDING A SEVEN-WEEK TRAINING COURSE ORGANISED BY THE MUSIC SECTION OF THE EDUCATION DEPARTMENT'S ADVISORY INSPECTORATE.

THE COURSE, CONDUCTED AT THE ST. ANDREW'S CHURCH HALL IN NATHAN ROAD, HAS ADOPTED THE KODALY APPROACH, WHICH IS A SYSTEMATIC PROGRAMME OF MUSIC TRAINING BASED ON A CHILD'S INNATE ABILITY FOR LISTENING AND IMITATION.

ZOLTAN KODALY WAS A HUNGARIAN COMPOSER AND MUSIC EDUCATOR BORN 100 YEARS AGO.

KODALY SOCIETIES HAVE BEEN FORMED IN 12 COUNTRIES. INCLUDING BRITAIN, U.S.A., CANADA, AUSTRALIA, JAPAN, FRANCE, WEST GERMANY, ITALY, FINLAND, BELGIUM AND MEXICO.

IN 1980 HONG KONG'S MUSIC TEACHERS WERE INTRODUCED TO THE KODALY CONCEPT BY MISS CECILIA VAJDA, A FORMER PUPIL OF KODALY AND LECTURER IN THE SCHOOL OF EDUCATION AT THE LISZT CONSERVATORY OF MUSIC, BUDAPEST.

MISS VAJDA, WHO IS NOW PRESIDENT OF THE BRITISH KODALY SOCIETY, HAS RETURNED TO HONG KONG TO CONDUCT THE CURRENT COURSE AND TO OBSERVE THE PROGRESS MADE IN SCHOOLS WHICH HAVE ADOPTED THE KODALY APPROACH TO MUSIC TEACHING.
