THE INDEX FOR CLOTHING AND FOOTWEAR DECREASED BY THREE POINTS IN BOTH C.P.I. (A) AND C.P.I. (B) AS A RESULT OF LOWER PRICES FOR MEN'S AND WOMEN'S OUTERCLOTHING.

HIGHER PRICES FOR JEWELLERY CAUSED THE INDEX FOR MISCELLANEOUS GOODS TO INCREASE BY ONE POINT IN BOTH C.P.I. (A) AND C.P.. (B).

THE ONE-POINT INCREASE IN THE INDEX FOR TRANSPORT AND VEHICLES IN BOTH C.P.I. (A) AND C.P.1. (B) WAS ATTRIBUTABLE TO THE HIGHER FARES OF FERRY AND PUBLIC LIGHT BUS.

THE INDEXES FOR SERVICES INCREASED BY ONE POINT IN BOTH C.P. I. (A) AND C.P.I. (B) CWING TO HIGHER RENT FOR BANK DEPOSIT BOXES AND HIGHER CHARGES FOR MEDICAL TREATMENT, DINNER PARTIES AND HAIRDRESSING, AS WELL AS HIGHER FEES CHARGED BY PRIVATE VOCATIONAL SCHOOLS.

PRICE MOVEMENTS IN THE OTHER SECTIONS WERE INSIGNIFICANT.

REMINDER ON STATUTORY HOLIDAY ****

A LABOUR DEPARTMENT SPOKESMAN TODAY (THURSDAY) REMINDED EMPLOYERS THAT SATURDAY, OCTOBER 2, 1982 - THE DAY FOLLOWING THE CHINESE MID-AUTUMN FESTİVAL - IS ONE OF THE 10 STATUTORY HOLIDAYS APPOINTED UNDER THE EMPLOYMENT ORDINANCE.

UNDER THE ORDINANCE ALL MANUAL EMPLOYEES, INCLUDING DOMESTIC SERVANTS, IRRESPECTIVE OF THEIR EARNINGS, AND ALL NON-MANUAL EMPLOYEES EARNING NOT MORE THAN $7 500 A MONTH, ARE ENTITLED TO THE HOLIDAY, THE SPOKESMAN ADDED.

THEY MUST ALSO BE PAID FOR THE DAY-OFF IF THEY HAVE WORKED CONTINUOUSLY FOR THREE MONTHS IMMEDIATELY PRECEDING THE STATUTORY HOLIDAY.

HOLIDAY PAY SHOULD BE EQUIVALENT TO THE EMPLOYEE'S EARNINGS, OTHER THAN OVERTIME PAY, ON A NORMAL WORKING DAY. WHERE THE EARNINGS VARY FROM DAY TO DAY, HOLIDAY PAY SHOULD BE THE AVERAGE OF THE DAILY EARNINGS DURING A PERIOD OF 28 DAYS PRECEDING THE HOLIDAY. PAYMENT SHOULD BE MADE ON THE NORMAL PAY DAY.

IF AN EMPLOYEE IS REQUIRED TO WORK ON A STATUTORY HOLIDAY, THE SPOKESMAN CONTINUED, HE MUST BE GIVEN AN ALTERNATIVE DAY-OFF WITHIN 60 DAYS BEFORE OR AFTER THAT DAY.
