THE GOVERNOR, SIR MURRAY MACLEHOSE, HAS MADE EXCELLENT RECOVERY FROM HIS RECENT ILLNESS BUT ON THE INSISTENCE OF HIS DOCTORS THAT HE SHOULD CONTINUE TO REST QUIETLY FOR THE TIME BEING, WAS NOT ABLE TO PRESIDE OVER THIS AFTERNOON'S SITTING OF THE LEGISLATIVE COUNCIL.

A FAREWELL SPEECH SIR MURRAY HAD PREPARED FOR THE OCCASION WAS READ OUT ON HIS BEHALF BY THE DEPUTY TO THE GOVERNOR, SIR PHILIP HADDON-CAVE.

SPEECH BY HIS HONOUR THE DEPUTY TO THE GOVERNOR

Honourable Members,

The Governor, thankfully, has made an excellent recovery from his recent illness, but his doctors insist that he should continue to rest quietly for the time being. That is why, to his very great regret he has not been here today to preside over your proceedings. But he has asked me to read the following farewell speech which he prepared for this occasion before his. illness.
