MR IP SAID THE SUPPORT AND ASSISTANCE FROM THE GENERAL PUBLIC AND LOCAL ORGANISATIONS WAS THE DETERMINING FACTOR FOR THE SUCCESS OF DISTRICT ADMINISTRATION.
IN ORDER TO HELP AND ENCOURAGE REGISTRATION, THE 10 CITY DISTRICT OFFICES HAVE, SINCE LAST YEAR, BEEN PUBLICISING THE EVENT ACTIVELY,

MR IP SAID SINCE THE SETTING UP OF THE SHAM SHUI PO DISTRICT BOARD IN OCTOBER AND THE DISTRICT MANAGEMENT COMMITTEE IN MARCH LAST YEAR, A LOT OF WORK HAD BEEN DONE TO IMPROVE THE ENVIRONMENT, TRANSPORT AND ELECTRICITY SUPPLY TO SQUATTER AREAS. ALSO, MANY RECREATIONAL AND CULTURAL PROJECTS HAD BEEN ORGANISED, INCLUDING THE MONTH-LONG SHAM SHUI PO FESTIVAL.
HE SAID ALL THESE WERE JUST PART OF THE WORK DONE AND THERE WAS STILL A LOT TO BE DONE IN THE DAYS AHEAD. THE INCLUSION OF ELECTED MEMBERS WHO CAN REPRESENT THE LOCAL PEOPLE IN THE DISTRICT BOARD WILL SURELY MAKE THE DISTRICT ADMINISTRATION SCHEME MORE SATISFACTORY, MR IP SAID.

THE LABOUR DEPARTMENT TODAY (TUESDAY) REMINDED EMPLOYERS THAT THE CHING MING FESTIVAL WHICH FALLS ON MONDAY, APRIL 5, IS ONE OF THE 10 STATUTORY HOLIDAYS APPOINTED UNDER THE EMPLOYMENT ORDINANCE.
UNDER THE ORDINANCE ALL MANUAL EMPLOYEES, INCLUDING DOMESTIC SERVANTS, IRRESPECTIVE OF THEIR EARNINGS, AND ALL NON-MANUAL EMPLOYEES EARNING NOT MORE THAN $6 000 A MONTH, ARE ENTITLED TO THE HOLIDAY.
THEY MUST ALSO BE PAID FOR THE DAY OFF IF THEY HAVE WORKED CONTINUOUSLY FOR THREE MONTHS IMMEDIATELY PRECEDING THE STATUTORY HOLIDAYS.
HOLIDAY PAY SHOULD BE EQUIVALENT TO THE EMPLOYEE'S EARNINGS, OTHER THAN OVERTIME PAY, ON A NORMAL WORKING DAY. WHERE THE EARNINGS VARY FROM DAY TO DAY, HOLIDAY PAY SHOULD BE THE AVERAGE OF THE DAILY EARNINGS DURING A PERIOD OF 28 DAYS PRECEDING THE HOLIDAYS. PAYMENT SHOULD BE MADE ON THE NORMAL PAY DAY.
IF AN EMPLOYEE IS REQUIRED TO WORK ON A STATUTORY HOLIDAY, HE MUST BE GIVEN AN ALTERNATIVE DAY OFF WITHIN 60 DAYS BEFORE OR AFTER THAT DAY.
