LECTES ON FOOD HYGIENE FOR NT RESTAURANT OPERATORS

A SERIES OF LECTURES ON HOW TO PROTECT THE PUBLIC FROM THE DANGER OF FOOD-BORNE GEASES AND FOOD-POESIONING WILL BE CONDUCTED BY THE NEW TERRITORIES SERVICES DEPARTMENT FOR NT RESTAURANT OPERATORS.
THE FIRST EIGHT LECTURES AND AN OPEN FORUM STARTING TUESDAY (SEPTEMBER 8), HAVE BEEN ARRANGED FOR SHA TIN RESTAURANT LICENCEES, MANAGERS, CHEFS AND SUPERVISORS.
A SPOKESMAN FOR THE NTSD SAID THE LECTURES ARE PART OF THE COMMUNITY HEALTH EDUCATION PROJECTS OF THE SHA TIN HEALTH WEEK JOINTLY ORGANISED WITH THE MEDICAL AND HEALTH DEPARTMENT.
THE AIM IS TO PROMOTE THE BASIC PRINCIPLES OF FOOD HYGIENE AS APPLIED IN COMMERCIAL PRACTICE AND THE IMPORTANCE OF HYGIENIC FOOD HANDLING PRACTICES OF THE RESTAURANT WORKERS.
THE LECTURES ARE ALSO INTENDED TO AROUSE PUBLIC AWARENESS OF THE IMPORTANCE OF THE PREVENTION OF FOOD POISONING AND PERSONAL HYGIENE, PARTICULARLY FOR THOSE WORKING AT FOOD ESTABLISHMENTS.
THE TALKS AND THE SEMINAR, TO BE HELD AT THE SHA TIN HEALTH EDUCATION CENTRE IN LEK YUEN HEALTH CENTRE BUILDING, ARE FREE TO THE RESTAURANT OPERATORS.
THE LECTURES, TO BE GIVEN BY THE HEALTH EDUCATION INSPECTORS OF THE HEALTH EDUCATION UNIT OF THE NTSD, WILL BE ENTITLED +PREVENTION OF FOOD POISONING+, +PERSONAL HYGIENE OF FOOD SERVICE EMPLOYEES AND FOOD HANDLING PRACTICE+, +FOOD HYGIENE RATIONALE EXPLAINED+, +PRINCIPLES OF MICROBIOLOGY+, +CLEAN FOOD SUPPLY+, +CLEANLINESS OF UTENSILS/EQUIPMENT AND GOOD HOUSE-KEEPING+, +LOCAL FOOD BUSINESS LAWS+ AND+FOOD HYGIENE IN PRACTICE+.
THERE WILL BE FILM AND SLIDE ILLUSTRATIONS, VISUAL DISPLAY AND LIFE SPECIMENS INCLUDING MEDIA PLATES SHOWING COLONY GROWTH OF BACTERIA FROM A COUGH, AN INDEX FINGER AFTER PICKING THE NOSE, AND A DROP OF LIQUID FROM A DISH CLOTH.
