While no doubt land at reasonable prices for the sort of new
industries we need, and continuation of our attractive fiscal environ-
ment, coupled with the enterprise of our businessmen, are the best aids
to profitable diversification, I await with the greatest interest the
report of the Advisory Committee on Diversification.
I very much hope it will point to other ways by which this
process of diversification can be accelerated.
But basically we must rely on the ingenuity of our businessmen
individually, and collectively in such bodies as the Federation of
Hong Kong Industries, the Chinese Manufacturers' Association, the
Trade Development Council, the Productivity Centre and of course this
Chamber to develop both new markets and new products.
For my part I would like to pay my tribute to the men who
give so much of their time and effort to making organisations such
as this the dynamic forces which they are in the development of
Hong Kong.
