GOVT STADIUM LIGHTING TO BE IMPROVED

THE LIGHTING SCHEME OF THE HONG KONG GOVERNMENT STADIUM IS TO BE IMPROVED TO PROVIDE SUFFICIENT LIGHTING FOR COLOUR TELEVISION COVERAGE OF EVENTS IN THE STADIUM,
THE CONTRACT FOR THE WORK WAS FORMALLY SIGNED TODAY (FRIDAY) AT THE ELECTRICAL AND MECHANCIAL OFFICE OF THE PUBLIC WORKS DEPARTMENT AT CAROLINE HILL.
MR. GRAHAM OSBORNE, PRINCIPAL GOVERNMENT ELECTRICAL AND MECHNICAL ENGINEER, SIGNED ON BEHALF OF THE P.W.D. AND MR. PATRICK AUYEUNG FOR HUTCHISON BOAG ENGINEERING LTD.
MR. OSBORNE SAID THE WORK, TO BE CARRIED OUT FOR THE URBAN COUNCIL, WOULD TAKE ABOUT 18 MONTHS TO COMPLETE.
HE SAID THE EXISTING LIGHTING SCHEME WAS INSTALLED MANY YEARS AGO AND IT WAS NOT POWERFUL ENOUGH TO ALLOW EVENTS TO BE PROPERLY TELEVISED IN COLOUR.
THE NEW LIGHTING SCHEME WOULD OVERCOME THIS PROBLEM.

INTRODUCED
THE 24-HOUR RECORDED TELEPHONE COMPLAINT SERVICE BY THE ADVISORY COMMITTEE ON TELEPHONE SERVICES (ACTS) IN FEBRUARY LAST YEAR, WILL BE DISCONTINUED FROM JANUARY 1.
A GOVERNMENT SPOKESMAN SAID TODAY (FRIDAY) THE SERVICE WAS PROVIDED TO RECEIVE COMPLAINTS AND SUGGESTIONS FROM THE PUBLIC.
IN ITS 19TH PERIODICAL REPORT, PUBLISHED LAST MARCH, THE ACTS SAID THE COMPLAINTS SERVICE WAS BEING USED LESS FREQUENTLY AND IT WAS CONSIDERED THEREFORE THAT THE SERVICE WAS NOT ESSENTIAL. IN THE FIRST 11 MONTHS OF 1978, THE SPOKESMAN SAID, ONLY 23 CALLS HAD BEEN RECEIVED BY THE AUTOMATIC ANSWERING MACHINE AND THIS WAS WHY IT HAD BEEN DECIDED TO WITHDRAW THE SERVICE.
THE SPOKESMAN SAID THE PUBLIC COULD CONTINUE TO MAKE COMPLAINTS OR SUGGESTIONS TO THE SECRETARY OF THE ACTS BY CALL ING 5-95671 DURING NORMAL OFFICE HOURS,
