FAMILY LIFE EDUCATION CAMPAIGN MAKES GOOD START

THE DIRECTOR OF SOCIAL WELFARE, MR. THOMAS LEE, SAID TODAY THE HONG KONG-WIDE FAMILY LIFE EDUCATION CAMPAIGN HAD MADE A GOOD START AND PLANS WERE IN HAND TO INTENSIFY THE PROGRAMMES FOR ITS NEXT PHASE TOWARDS THE END OF THIS YEAR.
MR. LEE SAID THE INITIAL SUCCESS COULD BE SEEN THROUGH THE IMPRESSIVE RATINGS OF THE 10 FAMILY LIFE EDUCATION T.V. SPECIALS +UNDER THE SAME ROOF+, EACH OF THEM WATCHED BY OVER ONE MILLION PEOPLE DURING A SINGLE SCREENING.
ADDRESSING A LUNCHEON MEETING OF THE PO LEUNG KUK DIRECTORS, HE POINTED OUT THAT ONE OF THE SERIES IN FACT SCORED A RATING OF OVER 1.6 MILLION PEOPLE REPRESENTING 76 PER CENT OF THE TOTAL VIEWERSHIP.
THESE ENCOURAGING RATINGS, HE SAID, WERE COMPLEMENTED BY MANY FAVOURABLE CRITIC REVIEWS AND LETTERS RECEIVED BY THE RADIO TELEVISION HONG KONG WHICH PRODUCED THE SERIES BASED ON CASE HISTORIES SUPPLIED BY THE SOCIAL WELFARE DEPARTMENT AND VOLUNTARY AGENCIES.
MR. LEE SAID THE CAMPAIGN WAS LAUNCHED FOUR MONTHS AGO AS A JOINT VENTURE BY THE DEPARTMENT AND THE VOLUNTARY SECTOR TO FOSTER STRONGER FAMILY TIES AS A BASIC PREVENTIVE MEASURE AGAINST SOCIAL PROBLEMS AND FAMILY TRAGEDIES.
THE INITIAL PHASE AIMED AT PROMOTING THE CONCEPT OF FAMILY LIFE EDUCATION WHICH HE DESCRIBED AS ABSOLUTELY IN LINE WITH THE TRADITIONAL CHINESE FAMILY THINKING.
+OUR ULTIMATE AIM IS TO SEE EACH FAMILY IS MORE CAPABLE OF ENJOYING A TIGHTER FAMILY TIE AND MORE HARMONIOUS
RELATIONSHIPS AMONG THE FAMILY MEMBERS, HE SAID.
DURING THE PAST FOUR MONTHS, MORE THAN 450 PROMOTIONAL EVENTS WERE ORGANISED IN VARIOUS DISTRICTS ATTRACTING HUNDREDS OF THOUSANDS OF PEOPLE FROM DIFFERENT INCOME AND AGE GROUPS, HE SAID.
+THESE ACTIVITIES RANGED FROM FUN-FILLED EVENTS SUCH AS VARIETY SHOWS, CARNIVALS, GAMES RALLIES, CAMPS, PICNICS, COOKERY AND PHOTOGRAPHIC COMPETITIONS TO EDUCATIONAL FUNCTIONS LIKE DEBATES, ESSAY CONTESTS, QUIZ, SEMINARS AND LECTURES.+
MR. LEE DISCLOSED THAT THE NEXT PHASE OF THE CAMPAIGN, PLANNED TO START FROM SEPTEMBER, WOULD FOCUS ATTENTION ON THE PROBLEMS AND POSSIBLE SOLUTIONS OF INDIVIDUAL TARGET GROUPS OF A FAMILY -- PARENTS, HUSBAND AND WIFE, THE YOUTH AND THE ELDERLY.
