Mr. HO Nga-ming, J.P.

Mr. HO Nga-ming, Deputy Director of Education, will retire this year after a long and distinguished career in education. He is the senior local officer in the department. He has made a significant contribution to the raising of professional standards, notably through the inspectorate, (He was Chief Inspector of Schools) and in further education.

Mr. Richard LAT Ming, J.P.

Mr. Richard Lai worked with the Secretariat of the United Nations and the BBC before joining the Hong Kong Government Information Services Department in 1962. He was appointed Director of Information Services in 1976 and is due to retire shortly.

During his time in the Department he has been instrumental in expanding the range and quality of services available to the media in Hong Kong, and has encouraged close relations in particular with the Chinese press.

Mr. Peter Barry WILLIAMS

Mr. Williams joined the Hong Kong Government as a Cadet Officer in 1953. He had a long and distinguished career during which he has spent much of his time in posts connected with Defence and the Police Force, Establishment work and, latterly Social Services. Following several years in Social Services Branch in the Secretariat, and eighteen months as Secretary for Administration, he was Commissioner for Labour from May 1977 until he proceeded on pre-retirement leave recently.
