MORE AREAS IN TUEN MUN TO BE DEVELOPED

THE GOVERNMENT IS TO DEVELOP TWO LARGE AREAS IN TUEN MUN NEW TOWN TO PROVIDE SITES FOR TWO PUBLIC HOUSING ESTATES WHICH WILL ACCOMMODATE A TOTAL OF 80,000 PEOPLE.
A THIRD AREA IN THE NEW TOWN WILL ALSO BE DEVELOPED TO PROVIDE A SITE FOR LIGHT INDUSTRY BY THE END OF 1980.
THE TUEN MUN DISTRICT OFFICER, MR. PETER NG, TODAY (FRIDAY) DESCRIBED THE PROJECTS AS VERY IMPORTANT TO THE DEVELOPMENT OF THE NEW TOWN.
WORK ON RECLAMATION AND SITE FORMATION FOR THE FIRST PUBLIC HOUSING PROJECT THE $380 MILLION PUTTERFLY ESTATE -WILL START LATER THIS YEAR AND IS EXPECTED TO BE COMPLETED BY MID-1980,
THE ESTATE WILL ACCOMMODATE 60,000 PEOPLE BY 1983. IT WILL INCORPORATE ALL THE MODERN FACILITIES ON A SPACIOUS AREA OF 23 HECTARES, NORTHEAST OF PAK KOK.
WORK ON SITE FORMATION, ROADS AND DRAINAGE SYSTEMS FOR THE SECOND PUBLIC HOUSING PROJECT THE $130 MILLION SAU SING ESTATE - IS EXPECTED TO BE COMPLETED BY SEPTEMBER NEXT YEAR. PARTS OF THE SITE FORMATION WORK STARTED IN MARCH THIS YEAR.
THE SAU SING ESTATE, OCCUPYING 7.8 HECTARES NEAR YEUNG SIU HANG, WILL ACCOMMODATE 20,000 PEOPLE BY 1981.
THE SITE FOR LIGHT INDUSTRY WILL MAINLY BE ON RECLAIMED LAND OPPOSITE SAM SHING HUI. THE GOVERNMENT WILL ALSO CONSTRUCT THE MAIN BREAKWATER FOR A TYPHOON SHELTER PROVIDING AN ANCHORAGE OF 50 HECTARES FOR LOCAL FISHERMEN.
TO FACILITATE THE WORKS ON THE PROJECTS, MR. NG SAID, THE GOVERNMENT WOULD RESUME A TOTAL OF 8,559.5 SQUARE METRES OF AGRICULTURAL LAND AND 19.3 SQUARE METRES OF BUILDING LAND, TWO MONTHS' NOTICE OF THE RESUMPTION WAS PUBLISHED IN THE GOVERNMENT GAZETTE TODAY.
THE LAND RESUMPTION WILL INVOLVE THE CLEARANCE OF 13 DOMESTIC STRUCTURES OCCUPIED BY TEN FAMILIES, IN ADDITION, A TOTAL OF 57 OTHER TEMPORARY STRUCTURES, INCLUDING A SHOP, A WORKSHOP, A PIGSTY AND CHICKEN SHEDS, WILL HAVE TO BE CLEARED.
+DEPENDING ON THE IR ELIGIBILITY, DISPLACED FAMILIES WILL BE OFFERED EITHER PUBLIC HOUSING IN TUEN MUN OR SPACE IN A TEMPORARY HOUSING AREA.
+GENUINE FARMING FAMILIES MAY OPT FOR A RESITE TOGETHER WITH AN EX-GRATIA REHABILITATION ALLOWANCE OF $5,000, BUT THE FAMILY WILL FORFEIT THE IR PRIORITY FOR PUBLIC HOUSING,+ MR. NG SAID.
OWNERS OF AGRICULTURAL AND BUILDING LAND WILL BE OFFERED LAND EXCHANGE ENTITLEMENTS OR CASH COMPENSATION, HE ADDED.
