This Tuen Mun highway is a spectacular project and I congratulate the

Public Works Department and their contractors and engineers on the

completion of this first phase. With the completion of stage II and

also the Tsuen Wan by-pass by 1982, it will then be possible to travel

by continuous dual carriageway from Yuen Long and Tuen Mun in the West

to Kwun Tong in the East or Aberdeen in the South or Sha Tin and

Tai Po in the North-East.

I believe that these improved communications with the access

to new land which they will bring will be greatly to the benefit of the

New Territories and to all Hong Kong.

It is with the greatest pleasure that I declare the Tuen Mun

Highway open.
